Polurrian on the Lizard, Cornwall | UK
Emily and Dean celebrated their wedding at Polurrian on the Lizard in Autumn 2023. While I’m based as a wedding photographer in Devon, I love an opportunity to travel down to Cornwall, especially when it’s to a venue as beautiful as this. So a few hours (and quite a few winding roads) later after setting off in Devon, I arrived at the lovely Polurrian Bay Hotel in Cornwall.

The Preparations for Polurrian on the Lizard Wedding Photography
One of the great things about Polurrian on the Lizard is that it has a number of different locations to get ready, without having to risk seeing your fiancé before the ceremony. Emily was in a condo on the dynamic ridge-line and Dean had sea views from his room just adjacent to the Polurrian Bay Hotel. As my approach is centred around documentary style wedding photography, I love capturing morning moments because there are always so many emotions swirling around in the pre-wedding excitement. Plus, Dean and Emily’s most gorgeous Husky was stationed with us in groom preparations before the ceremony, which provided quite a lot of photography content (yes I have included him in the images, don’t worry…)
A Civil Ceremony With a Sea View
One of the things I love most about Polurrian on the Lizard Wedding photography is the civil ceremony aisle leading down to a breath-taking view of the Cornish Waters and beyond. Once all their guests were seated (with the help of the one and only Husky who work a ‘reserved’ sign for the first few rows), Emily walked down the aisle and her and Dean said their vows, framed by the sea. As a destination wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of seeing some incredible backdrops (see Mel & Pete’s chateau wedding in Toulouse if you’re interested), but this view from Polurrian on the Lizard is truly unforgettable.

The outdoor reception for this Polurrian on the Lizard wedding photography mainly consisted of the confetti shot, group shots and drinks and canapés, all set against the stunning backdrop of Cornish cliffs and the sea.
Polurrian on the Lizard Wedding Photography for a warm and atmospheric wedding reception
Following the outdoor festivities at this lush Cornwall wedding venue, we all headed inside for Emily and Dean’s seasonal autumnal wedding reception. As someone who loves warm tones (if you haven’t already seen from my website colours!), this autumnal colour scheme of moody copper and sage made me very happy indeed. The rest of the night consisted of dancing, drinks and festivities. Read on for the Polurrian on the Lizard wedding photography gallery.

A few words on
Getting married in Devon
Although I grew up in New Zealand, I’ve been travelling over to see my close family in Devon for much of my life and so have always had a bit of a foot in both countries. Admittedly, my opinion may be slightly skewed because I love a country house wedding venue and Devon is full of these (Pynes House and Huntsham Court are some of my all-time favourites to mention a few), but the allure of Devon also lies in its beautiful landscapes.
From its sweeping hills to the dramatic red rock Jurassic coast, there’s always been something pretty special about this part of the world. Along both the North and South Coasts, Devon also has some unique coastal wedding venues – The Grain Store near Torquay in Kingsbridge is one of my favourites and I recently did an incredible Devon summertime wedding there, where the ceremony took place right by the sea. For those who love the idea of a celebration in a national park, a Dartmoor wedding amongst its expansive moorlands and untouched forests can be absolutely beautiful too. Plus, you’ve got Cornwall just next door if you wanted to extend your travels slightly while you’re in this part of the country. All in all, I know I may be biased as a wedding photographer Devon, but Devon has definitely got quite a bit to offer when it comes to getting married in the UK.
