Huntsham Court Wedding Photography
Huntsham Court, Devon, UK | Allison & Ross
Allison and Ross celebrated their manor house wedding at beautiful Huntsham Court in June last year, with the most glorious English summertime weather to match. Set on the borders of Exmoor National Park and close to Somerset, this Grade II listed Tudor style manor house is just as breath-taking as it sounds and made for some pretty incredible Huntsham Court wedding photography.
The Preparations at Huntsham Court
The preparations took place at Huntsham Court itself. Both the bride and groom preparations were in large, light and airy manor house rooms (which, as a documentary wedding photographer who loves working around the light, I always love to see!).
A Civil Ceremony in Devon
From these lovely English country house rooms, we moved to the ceremony which was held in the grand wedding reception room at Huntsham Court. An extensive space with a view of the Huntsham Court grounds on one side and the rest of the manor house wedding venue on the other, this was a lovely spot to hear Allison & Ross’s vows.
Huntsham Court Wedding Photography for An outdoor Stately Home Wedding Reception
After the confetti shot, the guests moved out to enjoy the gorgeous English stately home gardens that Huntsham Court has to offer, all with the beaming sun above and a background music of acoustic tunes on the guitar. As a wedding photographer in Devon, something that I’ve loved about 2023 weddings is the amount of live music that I’ve heard during receptions – it’s such a lovely addition to the joyful, romantic ambience of everyone enjoying themselves at a wedding.
Following the wedding reception, were the speeches. I have to admit, these were some of the most emotional I’ve ever heard (there aren’t many times I’ve seen pretty much the entire room in tears!). Before the evening dancing, we took Allison and Ross out briefly for some golden hour shots with a backdrop of the historic manor house wedding venue. As if the gorgeous sun-drenched terraced gardens weren’t enough, the sunset then turned into the most glorious pink sky, which made for some pretty beautiful Huntsham Court wedding photography images.

The History of Huntsham Court Stately Home Wedding Venue
Huntsham Court is one of my absolute favourite Devon wedding venues to photograph at – from its colourful and abundant stately home gardens to its grand interiors with moody light and contrast, it’s a Devon wedding photographer’s dream! A few words on the history of Huntsham Court wedding venue – built in 1868, the manor house was created under the guidance of Benjamin Ferrey, one of the founding members of the British Institute of Architects. Quite literally built for a bride, it was created to replace the derelict Tudor mansion which was seen unfit for Katherine Walrond of Bradield Nr Cullompton, who had just married into the family. More recent years have seen multiple personalities, musicians and writers visit the manor and today it is mainly used as a Devon wedding venue for country house parties and celebrations. You’ll find more information on the history of Huntsham Court on their website, here.
