Chateau de cremat | Nice, France

Adhisti and Emmanuel celebrated their romantic destination wedding at the breathtaking Chateau de Crémat, a venue nestled just outside of Nice on the stunning French Riviera. Known as the inspiration behind Coco Chanel’s iconic logo, this magnificent wedding venue boasts a rich history alongside a beautiful French chateau aesthetic. While I work as a South West wedding photographer in the UK, I always love an excuse to travel, so I found it quite hard to turn down this opportunity to travel as a destination wedding photographer France, working alongside Peter Horton Photography. So, after a half day of travelling, I arrived at the enchanting Chateau Cremat wedding venue, ready for Adhisti and Emmanuel’s wedding as a Château de Crémat wedding photographer.

the preparations for the Château de Crémat wedding near nice

Preparations for the day took place in the chateau itself, with Emmanuel and Adhisti on separate floors which both boasted incredible panoramic views of the sparkling blue of the French Riviera and beyond. As my style is based around a documentary wedding photography approach, the preparations and all the excited emotions of anticipation which come with it are forever some of my favourite parts of the day to document. And this Chateau Crémat wedding was no exception. With excited friends and family coming into each room to greet Adhisti and Emmanuel as the morning went on, there were plenty of happy smiles and anticipatory giggles to capture.

a civil ceremony wedding with a sea view

Celebrating with an outdoor ceremony, Emmanuel and Adhisti chose to say their vows outside in the open air, with an incredible view of the golden sun over the glistening water of the Côte d’Azur. Taking place a little later than normal in the late afternoon, we were lucky enough to have the most perfect weather for the ceremony, drenching everyone in a gorgeous golden hue as the sun set behind us. As a chateau de Crémat wedding photographer, it’s always lovely to see outdoor civil ceremonies, where the bride and groom and their guests can truly make the most of the gorgeous surroundings. After some readings, a sand ceremony and the exchanging of rings, Emmanuel surprised Adhisti with a signing rendition of ‘all you need is love’, which was very reminiscent of the movie Love Actually. With everyone swaying in time to the song in the warm golden light, this was a pretty special moment indeed.

Following from this outdoor ceremony for a wedding at Chateau Cremat, we moved around the French grounds for the drinks and canapé session in the gold hour. There’s definitely something special about the lovely soft, golden light of the early evening hours in France, but this was something else – the whole chateau and its gardens were drenched in sun, making for the most lovely French chateau wedding look.

We then headed inside for the wedding reception at Château de Crémat. Adorned with light pastel and blush flowers by Flora Luxe Floral Design, this was a gorgeous wedding reception look. Plus, Adhisti and Emmanuel were announced into the room with a song and dance – they proceeded to get quite literally every guest up onto their feet for a dance celebration which was so fun to watch (I’ve included some images below if you’re interested!). Following speeches, Emmanuel’s family also surprised them both with a video of their time together, which was so lovely.

A Coco Chanel inspired wedding venue

Since Roman times, Château de Crémat has been an abundant wine growing site, nestled between the sea and mountains of the French riviera. In addition to this, the French chateau wedding venue also has links to the iconic Coco Chanel brand. A close friend of the owners, Chanel frequented the chateau in the 1900s and fell in love with the chateau and its logo, before adopting it as her own for the Chanel Brand. In more recent years, Chateau de Cremat wedding venue was taken over by a family who turned it into a wedding venue near Nice. Through careful restoration and fitting it out with furniture from the Ritz, they have brought the chateau back to life, showcasing the beautiful French chateau with its glistening chandeliers and manicured gardens to many lucky wedding couples and their guests.

A few words on

Getting married in Devon

Although I grew up in New Zealand, I’ve been travelling over to see my close family in Devon for much of my life and so have always had a bit of a foot in both countries. Admittedly, my opinion may be slightly skewed because I love a country house wedding venue and Devon is full of these (Pynes House and Huntsham Court are some of my all-time favourites to mention a few), but the allure of Devon also lies in its beautiful landscapes.

From its sweeping hills to the dramatic red rock Jurassic coast, there’s always been something pretty special about this part of the world. Along both the North and South Coasts, Devon also has some unique coastal wedding venues – The Grain Store near Torquay in Kingsbridge is one of my favourites and I recently did an incredible Devon summertime wedding there, where the ceremony took place right by the sea. For those who love the idea of a celebration in a national park, a Dartmoor wedding amongst its expansive moorlands and untouched forests can be absolutely beautiful too. Plus, you’ve got Cornwall just next door if you wanted to extend your travels slightly while you’re in this part of the country. All in all, I know I may be biased as a wedding photographer Devon, but Devon has definitely got quite a bit to offer when it comes to getting married in the UK.
